is due by Wednesday, March 18th!

February/March Book Orders

I had a couple of students ask me to hold the book orders for a few days so they could get their orders in.  I did this so we got a late start, set back a couple of weeks, on getting them sent in. The orders have been sent and I anticipate the books back sometime within the week if all Scholastic orders are going smoothly. If they are backlogged, it will probably be next week.

I will get the books to the students as soon as they come in. I apologize for the slowness in getting these done this time.  Thank you for your patience.

ROC Assembly

We had a cool assembly this afternoon.  A group out of Provo Utah called ROC, Remembering Our Culture, came and performed for us.  They sang and danced showing us dances from cultures of their ancesters.  They taught us that it is important to learn who you are and to be proud of that heritage.  Our students came by very excited by the wonderful assembly they had just seen.

They have a website.  Click it out!
Their group members come from all over the world: South America, Philippines, Japan, Korea, China, Native America, Mexico, Africa, the Polynesian Islands, and the Mediterranean Sea; among many other beautiful places. They are a very diverse group of individuals here to show others how they unite through song and dance; and that by learning from others we all learn more about ourselves.
Note to parents: If you are interested, they also have a MySpace Page.

Assembly

Today Miss UBIC came to present her platform to us.  She is very concerned about booster seat safety for young kids.  She also thinks that we ALL need to wear our seatbelts all the time.

Internet Links We Visit

Here are some of the links that we use in 4th grade:

Penny whistles

In music we are starting to learn how to play the penny whistles from Mrs. Jenkins.  These instruments are used in Celtic and Folk music.

The students were able to purchase their own from Mrs. Jenkins for $10.00 or they cold borrow one from the school.

Thanks to all parents who have sent back word on whether you want to purchase one or just borrow one.  If you haven't sent back the note yet, will you please return it as soon as possible.

When the students have earned the privilege to bring the whistles home to practice, please help make sure that they are returned daily. We do not have any extras at all at this time.

Peer Tutoring

For this past term, we have been involved in peer tutoring with the first grade. My class was assigned to work with Mrs. Tew's students. Each first grade was paired up with, at least one four grade student. The fourth grade were taught tutoring skills from Mrs. Janet Lee. They worked for about 30 minutes four days a week with their tutees! They had a good time working together. The fourth grade worked hard and I am proud of the success that the first graders had with their great help. I think it may have helped some of our fluency as well! It will be hard to see it end in just two more weeks.

Good luck always first graders!

Our contestants in action

Our contestants were first on the program at the assembly.

School Poetry Outloud

The school "Poetry Outloud" assembly was held on March 2nd.  Our class had six participants.  They each did a GREAT job!  Some were a little nervous to be presenting in front of all of our 4th - 6th grade students and their teachers, but they did a super job.  Mrs. Jenkins and Mrs. Dixie Swasey were in charge of this event.

We had three fabulous judges from AHS.  These three are involved heavily in the speech and drama department.  We were glad for their help.
