We were so excited to have the Water Van come visit our 4th grade classes. Here are some photos from our visit yesterday. Leah and Christopher did such a good job of teaching us. We had a GREAT time and learned so much!

Internet Safety
We had an assembly to teach us about some of the dangers of the internet. We learned tips to always stay safe when we are using the internet, at home and at school. It is most important not to give out personal information to others online.

Learning about Soil
We learn about soil in 4th grade science class. Here we are with our special guest teacher, Vaughn Thacker, as he taught us about soil. We had so much fun learning and playing!

Last Book Report
We have already been reading and discussing many fables, fairy tales, and tall tales here at school. The students are to read 2 of each of genres: Fables, Fairy Tales, and Tall Tales. These may come from a book you have at home, from the library or from the internet. There is a link to several sites on my webpage and blog. The students are to keep track of the tales they read. I am sending home a form for the students to get track of the reading they each do.
PROJECT CHOICES: Choose one story that you read an prepare one of the projects below.
1. Play: Write a play in your own words retelling the story. Record it into a cassette tape recorder. Be sure to include the title, author, genre, and your name at the beginning of the cassette recording.
2. Puppets: Make puppets and be ready to tell your class all about the main characters and the problems faced in your story. You can make the puppets out of tongue depressors, socks, or whatever you can think of. Make whatever props you think you might need.
3. Play and Puppets: To earn extra points on your project, make puppets and put on a puppet show, acting out the story to your cassette tape recording.

AR Books
Students need to continue to read nightly. This may be books of the students choice. When each book is completed, an AR Test needs to be taken on that book. This is our final chance to stack up those points!
County project guidelines

1. A visual project on your child's county needs to be completed. This project can be an idea of you and your child's choice. Sample ideas include a display board, diorama, student-made travel brochure, mobiles, decorated cake showing highlights of the county, Powerpoint presentations, etc. Use your imagination and have FUN!
2. Each student will "teach" the rest of the class all about his/her county as he/she shares the visual project with us. These oral presentations need to take around 5 - 10 minutes apiece. Remember to keep them below that 10 minute mark. Some of the things this report could include are: Location and brief history of county, scenic attractions, county seat and why it was chosen, other city/town information, famous people from the county, and any other interesting information discovered while researching.
There will be two grades associated with these projects: One for the visual presentation and one for the oral presentation. The class will be taking notes about the county as your child presents.
If this date doesn’t work for you, please let me know immediately and we can give you a new due date. I will give earlier due dates, but no switching to a later date.
We are not inviting parents to watch these presentations this year. We will be sharing the projects with you at “Spring Literacy Night” later this month.

Poetry Outloud Night Performance

End of Third Term
WOW! Another term is drawing to a close. This Friday is the final day of the term. All work needs to be in before school is over on Friday, March 20th.
Monday, March 23rd, there is NO SCHOOL for the students.
Report cards should be coming home the following Friday, March 27th.
